RE: Craggy Wash - Lake Havasu

Does the Walmart have the full grocery section? Yep, shopped there just last week. I guess we'll have to stop there at the end of the month on our way to Quartzsite. Of course we have to stop at the China House buffet..yum

We'll be in La Posa South 29 Dec with the weather permitting.

RE: La Fuma vs Faulkner recliner

Both of these recliners are top of the line. You would not be able to tell the difference between the two when sitting in them. I ended up buying the Faulkner because I liked the color better. The La Fuma were in fact cheaper to buy when we purchased ours.

RE: Dual propane tank problems with switchover ?

I had the same exact situation with my rig a few years ago except I have only one regulator. It was under warranty at that time so I took it to my dealer. He replaced the short hose that connects to the tank that would not switch over. The valve was malfunctioning. Problem solved.

Hood Fans

Does anyone know of a replacement quiet fan that will fit into the same space occupied by the noisy one that comes with the range hood? Or does anyone know of a way to make it run quieter? We dread using ours because it is so loud.

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

Soooooooooooo after all of the above, my inverter is grouded properly and it is OK to hook into the RV's electrical system. That depends on whether or not the neutral line is tied to ground inside the motor home at or near its power distribution box. Mine certainly is. There doesn't seem to be any regulation or standard one way or another. Assuming your Xantrex has a HOT neutral, which certainly seems to be the case, I would NOT assume that the neutral ISN'T grounded inside the MH. Personally if you find that is is grounded I would leave it alone and buy a more conventional, safer, MSW inverter. You cannot easily know why the manufactuerer chose to ground the neutral, it may have been for very good and substantial reasons. My neutral is definitely not tied to the ground by the distribution box. Why are you assuming that my inverter has a neutral ground?

RE: Solar Panels

Nope. Bought 130 Watt Kyocera in CA for $615 which is less than1/2 the price as I would of in Canada.

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

Your inverter is designed to have loads plugged directly into it and not be permanently connected to an AC distribution system. The fact that the inverter is not a permanent installation means the US NEC (United States National Electrical Code) doesn't apply, NEC doesn't apply.... and the NEC is the main place where the requirement resides for single-phase 120Vac or 240Vac systems to have neutral bonded to earth. The US standard for inverters of this sort, UL458, does not have a requirement for a bonded neutral on the output of inverters. Then UL458 needs to be revised. Regarding the voltage that the you are measuring, the ground does not float halfway, rather the neutral is not at 0 volts. The grounding is correct, in that loads plugged in will have their chassis (Provided a three prong plug is correctly used or the load chasis is itself independently grounded to to the same ground plane/bus) held at the same ground potential as the chassis of the inverter, but the neutral has approximately 60V on it instead of the usual 0V. The impact of that is minimal, since wiring and equipment connected to the neutral side of the circuit are required by safety standards to be treated as if they were at 120Vac. This is because there are many receptacles that are inadvertently/unintentionally wired backwards or 2-prong plugs that are not polarized. As a result the 60V neutral is not accessible to the user, and any shock hazard presented is mitigated by lack of access. What they're saying here, basically, is that EVERYONE does it, so it's ok for us to build devices that represent a serious SHOCK threat, a HEART STOPPING SHOCK THREAT. The main safety agencies, CSA, UL, and ETL, have all approved inverters with this half-voltage on the neutral scheme, and the manuals contain warnings not to AC hardwire any of these inverters. "..the manuals contain warnings not to hardwire..." Xantrex's "get out of jail free" statement. Sorta like the "I Agree" feature on many GPS/Nav systems. "not me...!!!" It not my fault, I WARNED you...!! Web Site Terms & Conditions ©2000 - 2008 Xantrex Technology Inc. I just took this off the Xantrex site. They state that these inverters are designed to be hard wired into the RV's electrical system RECREATIONAL VEHICLES Xantrex power electronics provide clean, quiet AC power so you don’t have to constantly rely on shore power or a noisy generator to enjoy the comforts of home in your RV. About RV Inverter Systems This illustration depicts a sample electrical system for a Class ‘A’ motorhome where part of the electrical system is powered by a Xantrex inverter/charger. Our inverter/chargers wire into an RV’s existing electrical system. By connecting directly to the battery bank, inverter/chargers can either draw power or recharge batteries as needed. The length of time an inverter/charger can supply AC power depends on the size of the battery bank and the number of loads drawing power. In this example, the inverter/charger converts a portion of incoming shore power to DC power to recharge the battery bank. The rest of the incoming AC power is passed on to loads connected to electrical circuits powered by the inverter. When shore power is disconnected, the inverter/charger inverts power from the battery banks to provide power to connected appliances. This means the inverter/charger draws 12-volt DC power from the battery banks and inverts it into 120-volt AC. An internal transfer switch senses whether shore power is present, allowing the unit to instantly switch from charge mode to invert mode when power is disconnected. Inverter-only units are available for systems that already have a battery charger. Our battery chargers provide multistage charging for all types of deep-cycle batteries. Xantrex also offers a complete line of RV power accessories including remote controls, battery monitors, fuses, and battery combiners.

RE: Heaters

I'm just curious, but does anyone have a documented death of a RVer due to these heaters. Yes, before I get blasted, I realize they are dangerous if there is not enough oxygen.

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

Thanks to all for responding. Before your last post Wayne you made me go to the Xantrex site and check out about the 1750. The manual does say to ground the inverter to the frame and that the tester will never read correct. Thanks again.

RE: Plywood edging for mattress foundation?

Just measure the thickness and length of your wood and, as other posters have said, go to Home Depot or any such store and they have inexpensive u-shaped plastis trim to put around it. I put a few drops of Gorilla glue around the edge in a few spots and the trim has never come off.

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

Assuming shore power is disconnected and the inverter is properly connected in its place, as a substitute, I see no reason for the GFI to give a bad reading unless the wiring is wrong. The inverter case and neutral wire should be grounded ONLY at the MH CB panel. If you happen to have let the case "float", or grounded it remotely from the CB panel neutral ground point, then the GFI will undoubtedly indicate a fault. My inverter case has been grounded to the frame where it is installed. Are you saying that it should not be?

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

Thanks Wayne for your responses. Maybe I never noticed the red light being displayed with the two yellows before. Therefore, I should assume that if all plugs used are working and my LCD TV works just fine, there is no problem. Thanks also to Terry and Alan.

RE: Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

I wasn't concernerd about the voltage reading as it is a MSW inverter. What was confusing me was the reading from the ciruit tester. I'm sure that when I had tested it before it showed a "corrct" reading and now it shows something that makes no sense.

Readings From Inverter When Using Circuit Tester

I have a Xantrex X-Power 1750 Watt Inverter which puts out 108.5 to 109 volts. I got this reading by using a digital multimeter. When I use a Circuit & GFI Tester, the one that has the three lights, I get an unusual reading. All three lights come on. There is no explanation on the tester for three lights. When I use the tester on shore power it display two yellow lights which signifies "correct". Would anyone have any ideas why I get this strange reading when using my inverter?????

CARP are reasonable if you're in good health. Used them a few years ago until my wife had a pacemaker put in. http://www.themclennangroup.com/
